Overtime Procedures for Our Schools

Wake County Middle Schools: Two thirty (30) minute halves will be played, with a ten-minute half time. If the game is a tie, there will be two five (5) minute overtime periods. If it is a tie, it will remain a tie.

TCSAC Middle Schools: Two 5 minute overtimes (not sudden death). During the regular season, games can end in a tie. For playoffs, two 5 minute overtimes and then penalty kicks (5 per team). If darkness is an issue, the two 5 minute overtime periods will be waived. Teams will go directly to penalty kicks. (Triangle Catholic Middle School Athletic League (TCSAC) include the following schools: Cathedral School, The Franciscan School, Immaculata School, Our Lady of Lourdes School, St. Catherine of Siena, St Mary Magdalene School, St Michael School, St. Raphael School, and St Thomas More School).

Lee/ Harnett Middle Schools: At the end of regulation there will be two 5 minute golden goal periods. If it is tied at the end of those two periods, it remains a tie.

OPAC (Orange/Person Athletic Conference): Two thirty (30) minute halves will be played, with a ten-minute half time. If the game is a tie, there will be two five (5) minute overtime periods. If it is a tie, it will remain a tie. Teams in the OPAC include: Northern Roxboro, Southern Roxboro, Stanford, Stanback, Gravelly Hill, Phillips, McDougle, Smith, Culbreth.

All Private and Public School Junior Varsity (JV) Games: No overtime will be played. The game will be recorded as a tie if the score is level after regulation time.

All Private and Public School Varsity High School Games: Non-Conference Games: Overtime MUST be agreed by both coaches at the beginning of the game. If both coaches agree, you will play two ten (10) minute overtime periods. If it is a tie, it will remain a tie. NCHSAA and NCISAA Conference Games: If the game is a tie, there will be two ten (10) minute overtime periods.

NCHSAA Conferences may elect to break ties during the regular using a penalty kick tiebreaker. This is the information we have at present regarding conferences using the tiebreaker:

The following conferences DO NOT have this procedure: 4A-Cap 8, 4A-SWAC, 2-A Northern Carolina Conference, and 3A-Big East.

The following conferences DO have this procedure: 3A-Big 8 (Southern Durham, Northern Vance, Cardinal Gibbons, Chapel Hill, Northwood, Cedar Ridge, JF Webb and Orange).

Information for other conferences is not available yet so ASK before your game.

NCHSAA Playoff Progression: If the game is a tie, there will be two ten (10) minute overtime periods. If it remains a tie, 2 five (5) GOLDEN GOAL periods will be played. If the game remains a tie, kicks from the mark will be used to determine the winner.
